Karela, also called Bitter Gourd or Bitter Melon, is known for its bitter and pungent taste and its many therapeutic properties utilised in Ayurveda to treat a variety of ailments, including respiratory disorders, skin conditions, gout and ulcers. As a hypoglycemic agent, it is also traditionally used for management of diabetes and regulation of blood sugar levels.
Karela contains a number of powerful medicinal compounds, including charantin (lowers blood sugar), polypeptide-p (an insulin-like hypoglycemic protein), momordicin (controls blood glucose), ascorbic acid (treats vitamin C deficiency), alkaloids (act as tranquillizers and antimicrobials), saponins (anti-inflammatory and immune-stimulating) and mucilage (acts as a healing agent). It is also a powerhouse of essential vitamins and minerals, including Iron, Magnesium, Potassium, Calcium, Vitamin C and vitamins B1, B2, B3, and B9.
Recommended Usage:
- Consume 1 capsule with a glass of warm water.
