With the recent launch of Total Body Care and our new website, we thought what better way to introduce our new clinic than to publish a recent interview with our Medical Director, Dr Fayaz Hasham, carried out by Beauty Journalist Eilidh MacRae...

Eilidh: Hi Fayaz, could you tell me a little bit about yourself?

Of course, my name is Dr Fayaz Hasham and I have been a doctor for around eight years, and have been practicing aesthetic medicine for approximately five years now.

Eilidh: Can you tell me a bit more about your background as a doctor?

Initially I trained and qualified as a pharmacist, but I realized very quickly that I yearned for hands-on work.
After working for a few years in the pharmaceutical industry, I completed a Masters in Health informatics. It was at this time that I decided to pursue a dream in becoming a doctor.

My medical training was completed over a period five years and then having completed my degree in Medicine, I then worked at various hospitals and acquired experience in A&E, paediatrics, obstetrics & gynaecology, dermatology, Ear nose and throat and Plastic Surgery along with a few Medical rotations.

I then started my GP training in Cambridge as I realised that being a GP opened doors into aesthetic medicine.

Using my surgical skills experience help me to initially perform anti-wrinkle and dermal filler injections.

I wanted to become a well-rounded aesthetician so I additionally trained in advanced laser and platelet rich plasma treatments.

My aspiration is to provide a broad range of aesthetic services from the Total Body Care clinics and at present we are working on setting up a pioneering hair transplant facility.

Eilidh: Can you tell me a bit more about how you got into aesthetic medicine?

During my training as a General Practitioner I found that the NHS was quite a frustrating organisation. Patients were not always able to receive the treatment they wanted, or see a doctor when they wanted, along with the piles of paperwork that constantly torments every single doctor. I decided that aesthetic medicine would help me pursue my passion of perfection as well as give more quality time to patients.

Within the field of medicine I work in, I've always been told that I have very good hand eye coordination and this is a great skill to have as an aesthetician.

It also gives me great pleasure in giving my clients a positive result through any of the number of treatments that I perform.

Eilidh: It's clear you're passionate about aesthetic medicine! Total Body Care looks to be an exciting new clinic, can you tell me a bit more about it?

Total Body care is an idea born from a friendship and a concept spanning back 25 years. My laboratory buddy and I wanted to come up with a concept as opposed to just offering the same old services. As soon as we met in the laboratory at the London School of Pharmacy we hit it off. We share the same vision; we wanted to provide a service tailored to the full body rather than treating individual areas.

Through Total Body Care, we wanted to treat the individual holistically incorporating all aspects of health.

Our clinic is not just about laser or injectables, it promotes a combination approach which looks at how well your nutrition levels are and how good you look on the inside as well as the outside.

We have since built an experienced team of practitioners and joined forces with leading Therapists and Specialists to provide a new concept into looking and feeling good. I am the Medical Director and Lead Aesthetic Physician at Total Body Care and all services and products go through me before we actually treat or recommend products.

I provide guidance and advice on a day-to-day basis and I also I'm very hands-on with the laser and aesthetic procedures.

Eilidh: Finally, can you tell me a bit more about the vision behind Total Body Care?

Our vision is to become a wellness centre for the future, focusing on exactly what the name says, Total Body Care. We aim to help people look and feel their best with nutrition, dermatological, hair care, weight loss, healthy living, lifestyle advice and counselling. In addition we take pride in being purveyors of the finest health, beauty and wellness products. I and our team diligently assess all the products we sell through our clinics, and online and we only handpick a select number of lines for sale.

Total Body Care is now open and accepting bookings, enquiries and consultations online and in their Clapham and Harley Street Clinics.
