The brand’s name has its roots in the 19th century Germany, where Eduard Gerlach inherited his father’s goods store business and expanded it with a drugstore. Using his expertise as a pharmacist, he created ‘E. Gerlach’s Preservative Cream’ by combining fundamental substances such as potassium carbonate, unsaturated fatty acids, mineral-based lubricants and disinfecting essential oils. This was the first industrially manufactured cream for the prevention and alleviation of foot ailments and Eduard Gerlach is rightly considered to be a pioneer of modern foot care.
