From moisturisers and serums to masks and exfoliators, there are plenty of beauty products that are available to purchase, and that’s not including the wide range of makeup products out there. But what order of skincare products do you follow? If there even is an order.

It turns out there are some ways of ordering your skincare routine to get the most out of your products and enhance their effectiveness. Luckily, we work with healthcare professionals that can guide you through the best skincare routine.

What order to use skincare products

The order of skincare starts with a great cleanser. Having a dirt-free face is the perfect foundation for applying the rest of your skincare products.

Cleanse

A cleanser removes excess oil and leftover makeup, as well as daily dust and grime from pollution and pollen particles. A cleanser can also remove dead skin, so having a clean base to start with is important.

Skin type

Dry skin - Sukin has a range of cleansers available, one that is designed for dry and dehydrated skin is the Sukin Cream Cleanser. Enriched with botanical oils and extracts including Rosehip, Avocado and Sesame to hydrate your face. There’s even an infusion of Aloe Vera and Cocoa Butter to further moisturise and protect, all while removing make-up.

The Uriage Extra Rich Dermo Foaming Cleansing Gel is also a great alternative. Providing moisture while cleansing effectively and gently.

Oily skin and spot prone - The Avene Cleanance Cleansing Gel is perfect for oily skin. It regulates oil production without stripping the skin and purifying it in the process. It can also be used on the chest and back as well as the face.

The Sukin Oil Balancing Purifying Gel Cleanser is also a great option. Charcoal is included, balancing the complexion through the removal of toxins and excess oils.

The Dr Hauschka Clarifying Toner is ideal for oily and spot prone skin. It calms acne and absorbs excess oil, all while soothing redness and irritation, removing blemishes and blackheads and minimising enlarged pores.

Combination - The Weleda One Step Cleanser & Toner is a great choice for combination skin. If you’re wanting to combine a cleanser and a toner for a quick routine that targets combination skin, then this product is right for you. Packed with natural ingredients for a gentle cleanse that won’t strip skin of natural oil or leave skin with an oily residue.

The Uriage Thermal Micellar Water Combination to Oily Skin protects against dryness. The micelle's gentle, non-ionic constituent surfactants act like magnets to remove make-up while the extracts neutralise skin sebum. Its unique application requires you to simply spray over the face and leave it to sink in.

Sensitive -  For sensitive skin, we recommend the Avene Gentle Milk Cleanser. This nourishing cleanser is specially formulated for dry and very sensitive skin.

The Dr. Hauschka Soothing Cleansing Milk soothes sensitive skin. It can even be used as a shaving lotion, the protective properties are used to calm sensitivity and help diminish the appearance of redness.

Age conscious - For those concerned about fine lines and wrinkles, the Medik8 Surface Radiance Cleanse comes to the rescue. Specifically formulated to tackle dullness and uneven skin tone and texture through powerful exfoliating.

Formulated with AHA & BHA acids, Mangosteen Peel and extracts to decongest impurities residing in the skin, resulting in a visibly smoother and evenly toned complexion.

The SkinCeuticals Blemish + Age Cleanser Gel combines anti-ageing properties with blemish eliminating ingredients. Often products are only designed to target one skin concern, but this cleanser recognises that even ageing skin can be prone to the odd spot or blemish.

Tone

Having a toner as part of your skincare routine further cleanses the skin without stripping your natural oils. It also prepares the skin to absorb the products used in the next stage, often making sure you don't miss any remaining dirt or oil from your cleanser.
